Julie grew up in a family of guitar players. She played guitar accompaniment and percussion in high school days.
Julie took up classical guitar playing in 2006 and has studied with Richard Kendrick (Ohlone College), Mark Simons (San Francisco Guitar Quartet) and Richard Flores of California State University Stanislaus.
Julie has performed in guitar duets, trios, quartets, and with the Diablo Valley College Guitar Ensemble. Her repertoire covers a wide range of styles ranging from Renaissance music to modern style. Sample video.
Her long-term career as a California public school teacher enhances her guitar teaching. She taught computer classes at Hayward Center for Education and Careers for many years. Her educational background includes a Master of Science in Computer Science degree from San Jose State University.
Outside of teaching and playing the guitar, Julie enjoys competitive running, playing recreational golf, bicycling, visiting museums, traveling and reading European history.
